This is not the european web community coming together. This is the O’Reilly Web 2.0 Circus making a stop in Berlin.

There’s a lot of discontent building up among the web community present at the Web 2.0 Expo in Berlin after the first day of the conference. It feels like a lot of speakers are just recycling old presentations. For example the ‘Creating Passionate Users’ by Kathy Sierra seemed like a 1to1 copy of other talks she has given before at other conferences. Tim O’Reillys keynote felt at least two years old. And if you’re following the action in the web community closely you can have a lot more dejavu moments by looking at the schedule. Due to this some people are already starting to think about leaving the conference for good.

It kinda seems like our apprehensions are coming true: This feels like a conference where all the companies which have missed the boat so far can send their management to get a clue about this whole web 2.0 thing. That’s ok. But then you shouldn’t market the whole thing as a get together of the european web community.

Please proof us wrong!
